Our central focus as an organization is our Lending Library. The Library is currently housed in the Veteran Resource and Support Center (Koldus 112) and is open and free to all student veterans at Texas A&M.
Our library has over 1000 textbooks from majors across the university and has grown substantially with each passing semester.
In Spring 2016, we had 72 textbooks checked out of our library, saving student veterans $10,569 in total.
Most of our textbooks were donated by students at Texas A&M. The response from students has been tremendous and they have given so freely to help out their fellow Aggies who have served.
In addition to accepting textbook donations from students, we have also begun two major initiatives to bring more books that veterans need into our library.
The first is our “Textbook Task Force,” which is a group of members that solicit donations from majors where veterans need textbooks. They are currently focusing on building up our selection of construction science textbooks for veterans taking classes in that department.
The second is our textbook purchasing program. Spring 2016 was the first semester that we were able to purchase specific textbooks for veterans. For the first go of it, we bought books for veterans who had been selected as student veterans of the month.
Each Fall and Spring semester, student veterans will be able to submit which textbooks they need and are not currently in our library. We will purchase whichever textbooks we can based on the availability of funds. After the semester is over, the textbooks are returned to us and remain in the library for student veterans to use in the future. You can read more about this program and how to apply here.
You can check-out books for the summer semesters by coming in to the VRSC (Koldus 112) and signing them out in person. For the fall and spring semesters, please fill out this form and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions, the VRSC staff know how that process works can help you out or email us at email@example.com.
If you have textbooks to donate, we have a donation box in our library in the VRSC (Koldus 112) where you can drop them off, or you can contact us and we can arrange to pick them up from you.
